General

What is a wiki?

Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki for all you need to know.

What can I do on this site?

You can view pages other users have created, such as events, history, general Nexus info and some other things. If you create a free account you can also add to any portion of the site.

Won't people just come along and delete everything?

Technically, they could, but they would just waste their time. A wiki lets anyone edit pages, but it is extremely easy (2 mouse clicks) to revent a page back to its original form if it was defaced. We all track every IP address that edits pages. If it becomes a problem, we can and will report frequent vandalisms to Kru Interactive and the appropriate authorities.

How can I help prevent vandalism?

Easy. As you are using the wiki, if you come across a vandalized page, go up to the top of page to the "History" tab. From there you can revert to the last good version of the page before it was vandalized. Thank you for helping to maintain the integrity of NexusWiki.

Searching

How do I search for an image?

Enter the name of the image you want in the search field to the left and click Search (e.g. "Amethyst"). Then, at the bottom of the results page uncheck (Main) and check Image and click Search. If the image already exists in the wiki it will find a match (e.g. Image:Gem.gif) which you can use. If the image is not found you may upload it yourself.

Editing

I want to add some info to this site. How?

All you need to get started is a free acount. Then just click "Edit" at the top of any page and have at it.

Are there rules to follow when editing?

Yes. Read the Guidelines for more information.

What markup language should I use when editing?

You can use regular HTML like you would any other page. You can also use Wiki markup. See [1] for more details.

Media content

Where do I upload a file?

Just go here: Upload

What types of files can be uploaded?

Most common image formats, including GIF, JPG, and PNG. PNG and GIF are preferred. For audio files, only Ogg files are allowed. Ogg files are similar to Mp3, but have an "open source" codec.

What is the maximum file size allowed to be uploaded?

Somewhere around 5 megabytes. This cannot be changed. Large images will be automatically resized and formatted. When added media, the smaller the better.

How can I play Ogg files?

Many modern players support Ogg files. The latest version of [Winamp] supports it natively. If you have Windows Media Player, you will need an Ogg codec which you can get from [here]. [JOrbis] is a cross-platfrom Ogg player that should play Oggs on any operating system.
