The shamans history of drum making is
well documented. From the preparation of
the hides that the shaman chooses cover their
drum, to the construction of the foundation of
the drum itself.
The drum requires much thought before we actually set upon the task of crafting one. We must consider the spirit of the animal from who we take our hides. The animals of Nexus offer us a great resource and we must honor their sacrifice. From the mighty Bears that roam Vale, to the smallest of foxes hiding in their caves, to the strongest of Tigers that grace our lands. We must meditate to make sure their spirit is at rest and that they give us their blessings for use of their skins.
The task of preparation is no easy one. We bring the pelts to Dae Shore and we scrub them down with salt. We then must make a fire to tan the hides we have collected. We fan the smoke and heat toward the pelts to tan them and purify them.
We then prepare the base of the drum. Since the type of beating is as unique as each shaman, we can use two different materials to construct the base. For a firmer and crisp sound we use ginko wood. For a softer more melodious sound, we use piles of wool. This is very time consuming but the rewards are great.
Inside each of our drums we place the heart of the great tiger. Our drums often mimic the heartbeat of the animals we use. Imagine your own ritual being graced by the Tiger. As he lends his strong and fierce heartbeat to your playing.
The last step is to condition the Drum. We set about the task of collecting exactly 201 fresh acorns. These are ground down and the oils that are released are rubbed into the drum to keep it waterproof and aid in the sound they make.
Why have I told you this? The answer is simple really. The Shaman of the Nexus have decided to use this age old art, to help the community craft their own drum. You will help us from the first step until the last. And upon completion be presented with the drum you aided in crafted.
You will write to a drum maker and tell them why you need our Drum. The letter must be in role play format and NO longer then one nmail. Tell us how the drum will aid you and what you will use it for. Also, be sure to tell us which base you choose. The hard base or the soft base.
When your words are read and we are ready to take on the task of creation, we will contact you. Keep in mind the items mentioned, for they will be needed to create your drum.
