Macro Set Up
Most classes I hold there's a singular question. And this is the reason I am posting about macros now...
The young mages often get confused about how to set up macros to hunt, which spells put there for better performance, which ones are not necessary... And I have been saying same: The way you set up your macro is personal and every mage will do it different from other. You must find which is better for you.
However I have been asking mages attending my classes to tell us about their macro, so the others can get the 'idea' and build a personal macro -smiles-
The spells used in most macros are:
- Paralyze - Blind - Invoke - Heal - Vex - Any attack spell (Zap) - Armor - Sanctuary - Confuse - Return movement (unpara)
I've noticed, however, that some mages use Gateway and Return on macro. It might be usefull when you are low level and probably dont have all the spells above to put in macro. I personally think that Gateway and Return are just a waste of macro, but, again, it's a personal choice and you, as mage, must find the best way to set up your macro.
But keep in mind that It will be wise to have HEAL on macro... it can save your life or someone's life in your group. Sometimes to type (shift + Z + letter) can take a precious time, enough to make you die. SANCTUARY is a good spell to have on macro as well. It is the first spell you should cast when ASV time (It should be SAV instead). Sanctuary protects you more than anyother. So, if not enough room for whole set, keep SANCTUARY and ARMOR on macro. MIGHT is not necessary for mages and only warriors need this spell (Rogues can self cast it).
PARALYZE and BLIND are Mages Basic spells for hunt. So, you need to have them and you must be able to cast them all the time, very fast. So, forget about Shift + Z for them. Remember, you need to para every 20 seconds.
GATEWAY and RETURN - well, I rather shift+z or just use Yellow Scroll - Save macro for something you'll use constantly. Remember that you must have on macros those spells you use a lot. So you can cast them quick. Unless you gate (bail) every 60 seconds, why have gateway on macro? Or return?
VEX is important to have, specially because mages 'solo' a lot. But remember to do not use vex when you have a poet in group with ability to scourge. Vex is also very usefull when killing bosses. They can Atone (remove scourge) but they cannot remove Vex :)
If you are willing to learn and practice PA sets in your hunts, it's wise to have Confuse and Unpara, because you will need them to make your sets better. And blind and paralyze are essential of course.
Try out some macros, change them and try another way... Find your personal macro! You'll find out it's yours when you use them so easily that you dont even need to think what is there. It's part of your character, it's not a macro anymore, it's your skill as mage, the ability to cast spells really fast and guarantee a pleasant and safe hunt for you and your friends.
