History

The Inspiration It is said that after generations of resting in the heavens, Elenisi looked down and saw how scattered her family had become. She was saddened by the way they seemed to walk through their lives without any real direction and purpose, and without realizing where they had come from. Despite her many efforts to guide them through the stars, they wandered farther away.

Elenisi began to speak softly to open minded young mothers. She would visit their dreams and remind them of the stories told when they were children. It was one of these mothers that began to recite the oral history once again. As time passed, younger generations began to take pride in their heritage. Some even moved closer to the place where Elenisi herself was born.

Through the stories and the teaching of the mothers, the children learned that the stars are a resting place for those who have passed out of this life. They learned that their ancestors were watching over them to protect them, guide them homeward if they are lost, and inspire them to dream of future things. The children learned that if they listen closely enough, they could hear the voice of Twilight speaking to them and offering guidance.

Each child is taught that he has a purpose and place in this world. He is told to listen carefully for a message that is for him alone.. a message that he must hear and interpret for himself. It is never known how the message will come to a person, so he must be open to all possibilities at all times. The voice of Twilight will help him to hear the message and know its meaning. When one discovers his purpose in life, it is known as "The Inspiration".

The Dreaming The sun fell slowly, casting shadows over the land as the light danced across the water. The river flowed gently, lazily stretching out between the shores. I walked quickly, anxious to return home after a day of studying. Of course, I could already taste the milk-rice Mother was making with sheer anticipation.

Dinner was uneventful and devoid of conversation, as was every meal in our home. My father was a staunch believer in the idea that one should be silent and in constant thanks for what he is eating, until after it has been consumed. After dinner, I retired to my room and dressed myself for bed. Once I had finished, I knelt to my knees and began giving thanks for the day. My mother entered several minutes later to pray for my protection during my sleep. She reminded me that if I could not sleep, to simply look to the heavens and the stars would guide me into my dreams.

After she left my room, I stared at the stars for what could only have been hours. My vision began to blur and it seemed like the stars were dancing in the sky as my eyes closed and I drifted into sleep. Dreams came easily that night, as though inspired.. dreams of things that I had never seen before. I sat up in bed, as my room began to change into what looked like a forest clearing. A fire was in the center of the clearing, flames dancing. I stood in silence as the fire grew stronger and brighter. The stars above then began moving away from their proper places in the sky, as though mimicking the movement of the fire. I saw the fire rise off the ground as the stars moved toward the earth.. and the two seemed to join.

From this union, dancers formed. The stars became crowns and the flames became flowing hair. For hours they danced around the fire as it continued growing in intensity. Suddenly, an ethereal hand stretched toward me and beckoned me to join them there. I felt my feet leave the ground, my heart soared as I was welcomed among these beings of fire and twilight. I awoke with a start, my body tired and my mind racing. I looked around quickly, finding my room to be as it was when I fell asleep. There was no evidence of what I had experienced.. at least not physically. In my heart, however, there was a dream.

The Twilight I spent my younger days in search of kindred spirits on the island where I was born. My mother, also of the essence of Twilight, went with me to aide in the search for others like us. After several years of constantly moving from place to place, Mother's spirit gave in and went homeward to the heavens. Left to continue on my own, I departed my island home and journeyed to the mainland, where I hoped to find company and brotherhood.

I arrived in the kingdom of Buya during the 33rd year of Yuri's reign and was immediately taken in by a kind tavern mistress named Yunsil. I began learning the art of healing, hoping that it would help me meet and become acquainted with other people. I soon met Saurumo, a young man who had captured my heart and shared my dream of Twilight. We married quickly and began our joint search for other children of Twilight.

Within weeks, we met a seasoned warrior by the name of Koutaul. He was a man of pure and honest convictions, and it was evident to us all that we were destined to be in each other's company. The three of us became the founding brethren of what is known as Elendhirin, or "Children of Twilight".

The brotherhood began to grow as others were attracted to us. Though some merely wanted status or handouts, others have become the backbone of what is now a strong family unit. Our dear brother Saurumo was forced to leave us and join our ancestors in the heavens, as his own life's essence was exhausted in his relentless search for other kindred spirits. Though saddened by the loss, we know he watches over us even now.

As our family grows, we continue to find others who share our goals and give of themselves to see dreams become reality. Through each trial that comes to us, we grow closer together as friends and as brethren. It is very clear to us that we are a family of kindred who have gathered together and are dreaming of a future. May the stars continue to inspire us and speak to our hearts.
