I think we should revise the Kru Interactive part so it doesn't break Nexus law 84.6 (revealing the identities of immortal characters). Yes, it would be nice to have that kind of detail in this wiki, but we'd probably benefit more by complying with the laws so that the website can be promoted (or at least ''mentioned'') in-game.--[[User:PhantomSnake|PhantomSnake]] 14:05, 25 Jul 2005 (EDT)

This is more a question of the original mission of this site than anything else. While on one hand I would want this wiki to contain as much applicable information as possible about Nexus, my original intent for a site such as this was to be a complete game resource for Nexus, not necessarily a complete history of Nexon/Kru, their employees, their company information and etc. It's like you going to a fan site for any other game... You'd find purely in-game information, not anything about internal employees, nor would you really want to. I think that discussing too much outside the scope of the games itself may really go out of the bounds of the mission of this wiki, and therefore I would want to keep it Law 41 compliant purely so our affiliates can feel comfortable linking to or referencing the wiki and also so it will have high visibility in the game to newer players. Comments welcome.

You posted on NexusForums that you wouldn't make it a necessity to keep this law 41-compliant so we could talk about what actually happened in the past, and what is actually happening (aka with Marama). Not to mention NexusAtlas says "Orb / Dave Kennerly" in their credits. So you most definetly need to leave =that= in. All in all, you need to cut the crap and make this a real wiki. No "omg kru might not like me anymore". We have 2 news sites, we need something where we can freely discuss nexus.
/-,iro

----

I had posted that originally because I was undecided about my intent with this wiki. I of course want it to be as all-inclusive as possible. I didn't want to have to start restricting content either, which is "anti-wiki" I guess. I also didn't want it to be watered-down simply so Kru would approve of it. However, my original idea for the site was to make a wiki about Nexus ''the game'', not about Nexon or Kru Interactive.

I have considered the requests of those who wish to not see this site Law 41 compliant. Most of these requests focus on a single point: being able to reveal Immortal character's indentities, which was argued as a important part to really tell "real" Nexus history. Honestly, though, I believe it is not very important to know who plays or has played Immortal characters. Sure, there as been drama within Nexon and its employees that affected the game, but I feel that is entirely out of the scope of this wiki. Secondly, just because you can't reveal Immortal character's IDs, doesn't mean you can't discuss Immortal characters. Whenever someone says "tip", we all know who you are talking about. Knowing who tip's other character is, or who he is IRL, is irrelevant. This site is not a news or gossip site. Its purpose is to provide the most extensive and dynamic information about NexusTK gameplay.

Really besides this there is no other laws Kru requires that would hinder this wiki in any way. You already can't harass or use profanity, regardless of Law 41. As long as you don't do that and don't reveal Immortal characters, the site is Law 41 compliant. It can still contain a wealth of highly accurate information about NexusTK amd Nexus ''game'' history. I have been going back and forth on this, but I am going to officially draft in the Guidelines to not reveal Immortal character's IDs. This will ensure Law 41 compliancy.

If anyone makes a mistake, they won't be reported. Their post will just be reverted to the last good version.--[[User:Zaventh|Zaventh]] 22:35, 25 Jul 2005 (EDT)
== Revealing GM identity= no breach of nexus law ==

Uh, David Kennerly makes no effort to hide he was ORB. In fact he uses it in his resume and essays about game design quite often

http://finegamedesign.com/resume.htm

Also, "Wony" makes no secret he is Mr. Lee and why would he? He's the President of the company, not a volunteer player trying to hide their player identity. There isnt any reason to delete the information that they are GMs, cause its a fact they are.

The importance of the information is that if you have some kind of understanding of the backgrounds of the GMs, you have an idea of why the game is the way it is. ORB/ David Kennerly's background in games was designing the X Files Trivia game, and the man has written several essays explaining why he did what he did in not only NexusTK but Dark Ages as well. If you think players arent interested in hearing about this, your quite mistaken. I sure was.

Now, I stayed away from revealing Archon mortal characters when I was creating the Archon section, but having detailed information about what a GM is and how it is different from an Archon, or what Angels were, or any other tidbit....hey thats valuable information that educates people. You'd be surprised how many people honestly believe "Delphi" was one person.

There is a wealth of information I was considering adding, like information about events history for example, but this wiki is really disorganized... I dont think the company info, subpath list, clan list and caves should all be on the same page, and I'm not sure what your intending to do with the Spells and Items pages...I'd personally make a list of subcategories like "swords", "staffs", etc and then have a short article describing the item, what it is, where it comes from, maybe any type of tidbit information about it....but if this wiki is gonna become a stripped down clone of Nexus Atlas I'll lose interest in contributing really fast. A wiki is suppose to be like an encyclopedia, not a giant cheat sheet or FAQ.

== Hate to burst the bubble but... [http://boards.nexustk.com/Law/Shajara03040084.html it is.] ==
David, though, never revealed that his was Orb in the game. Anyone can set up a website and reveal all the GMs, Archons, and etc and there's nothing wrong with that. But David doesn't link his site inside NexusTK. The problem is Nexus "law" prevents players from revealing their IDs in the game. And if you want to promote a website in Nexus, it becomes an extension of the game.

I'm not arguing that the information isn't interesting or that people care about knowing who Grin or Hroth was, for instance, but what I am saying is that it is not necessary in this wiki. All in all, the amount of information there is about such things is insignificant to how much information there is about the game itself and its internal mechanisms. You can still mention that Delphi was a Nexon employee, and that obviously Delphi was not the same person the whole time, but once you attach a name to it then it becomes a problem as far as Kru is concerned anyway. You can even mention earlier like you said that Grin was hacked and this caused the "God Wars" without revealing who Grin was. I see no nexus law to prevent these things. And anyway, I think it is more important to focus on these things rather than the IDs of other users, Immortals, or GMs.

And if you think things should be organized differently, go ahead and do it. All I did was setup a basic outline to give people a feel for the wiki and what they can do. That is the idea of a wiki. And I agree it should be more of an encyclopedia, not just an index of walk-throughs. NA isn't even up to date or anywhere near complete either. I would like to see info about paths and subpaths, skills, quests, and history of nexus events, etc. --[[User:Zaventh|Zaventh]] 09:45, 26 Jul 2005 (EDT)
== The Final Word: ==
This is a reply I recieved from Kru:

''"Hello. Please read the text of the notice more closely. You will see that it is designed to protect the identity of the normal characters ("Mortal characters") used by our Archons, Royals and GameMasters. These are the characters that our volunteers and exployees use to play the game on their own time. They spend much of their time helping to keep the game running smoothly. Their privacy should be respected."''

Kru has agreed that it is NOT against Nexus Law to reveal the identities of Nexon employees as associated with their immortal characters. It is only a violation to reveal the mortal in-game characters of immortal characters.
== About Adding Images to Text Lists ==

I think everyone should try to refrain from adding symbolic images next to clans, paths, subpaths, etc. For instance, the Shaman Mask next to the Shaman subpath is cool, but it really isn't the symbol for the Shaman. It is just one item that they have and shouldn't necessarily represent it as such. If anything, one could include the actual symbol next to the user in the user list inside the game. The Shaman mask and other subpath images belong on the respective item page, in my opinion.
Animated gifs can be uploaded and displayed just like any other image. The problem is getting our hands on those animated gifs. Nexus Atlas has a bunch of them but we can't use them without permission. However, it wouldn't be too difficult for us to make our own animated gifs. What you need to do is take screenshots in the game of all the frames of animation for a particular thing. An alternative would be to rip the graphics from the game data files, but that's a bit more tricky (and may not actually be all that useful for some things that are animated by pallete swapping — the Flameblade's glow, for example). Then, use a program like Animation Shop to piece them together into an animated gif. It's tedious work but it can be done.
=== On News Articles ===

I think have "interactive" wiki news articles is a good thing and will be even better as we compile more and more content on the wiki itself. However, I think we should restrain from making news actual wiki pages. For example, "Restored_Purged_Chars" or "NPC_Subpath_Change" don't really merit acticles I don't think. Articles should be oject oriented ie. "NPC" "Subpath" "Purge" would all be articles. We should try and keep the actual news stories limited to just the main page and link to relevant articles within the story. Old news could be archived to archive pages but again, I'm not entirely sure that is necessary when you look at the scope of the wiki itself. Current events on the main page is great and the wiki content to back it up would be excellent, but creating a "news site" is pushing the boundries of the scope of the wiki in my opinion. === Thoughts ===
Well we need some way to post news without having to create pages for it. I mean, Restord_Purged_Characters doesn't need to become a page. The whole reason I added those news articles, and whatnot on the main page was this: First, nexusatlas was down so people needed somewhere to see the news. Also, I think that with a wiki it could be very good to post the news, since anyone can update it. Just cause other sites have news doesn't mean we can't. Their news is usually outdated. Also, the main page hasn't changed in ages. It really really needs spruced up. As for the pushing the boundaries of the scope of the wiki, I think it needs done. As of right now we really don't offer much that isn't offered somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, this wiki has the potential to be a great thing. But as of right now it is barely ever used or visited. People go to the popular "trademark" sites, because they have no reason to go to the wiki. We have nothing much different to offer people, except the chance for them to input a ton of information for practically no reason since it can already be found at nexusatlas. Also, yes this is wiki site, but does that mean it needs to just become a dynamic nexus encyclopedia? I think if you choose to just be a site that defines nexus terms than a lot of potential is lost. I mean, most people don't need to visit a website to look up "NPC" Anyways, feel free to delete the news pages, bugs, projects, suggestions, etc. pages that I created. I really don't mind. It was all a desperate attempt to breathe some life into this site.
=== On News Again ===

When I first started the wiki, Phantom and I talked about a news section. I still think even today it could be a powerful feature of NexusWiki. To resolve the problem of having like 1000 news pages on various events, I think Scum is right. We need a single "News" page. This can easily just be located at [[News]]. This would be a single page with headlines of recent events, linking where possible to relevant NW articles. To do it effectively, however, I believe we'd need a group of "dedicated" news people, kind of like NA/NTK. Otherwise, we couldn't assure the quality and timeliness of our reporting. News two days after everyone already knows is kind of pointless. Therefore, anyone who is interested in this idea, please contact me. Any thoughts are also welcome. --[[User:Zaventh|Zaventh]] 09:58, 22 Dec 2005 (EST)
=== Huzzah for NexusWiki ===
Another possibility is to do a daily or weekly "featured article" like many of the other wikis...with information about the topic directly posted to the main page, separate from the highlighted articles. If there's a major event going on, that featured article can be replaced with easily updated information about what-we-know-so-far. It means no requirement for a news staff, or at least an interesting placeholder until we build up enough users to have the volunteers to make that feasible.
And kudos to you, Zaventh, to get this thing going, as well as all the others who first got it off the ground. I've been wondering how to host a wiki for Nexus, but now I don't even have to worry about that part!
== New Main Page ==
I reorganized the main page a bit. Now it's similar to the main page on other wikis (like [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Wikipedia] and [http://www.hrwiki.org Homestar Runner Wiki]). It's obviously rough right now... The content we had on the main page doesn't fit too well into this new scheme. I'll fix it up some more soon. I think having a "featured article" is a great idea. We just need someone to update it!
== NexusWiki banner ==

I put together a banner for us to give other websites so they can link to us.

[[Image:Nexuswiki banner 88x31.gif]]

Any comments? It's all very easy to change (the images and slogan) so let me know if you have better ideas. Of course, if anyone wants to make an entirely new banner, that's cool too.

== Table of contents ==

Hey guys, thoguht id drop some time on the wiki and help out?
just a quick question.
How do I add a table of contents?

=== Re: Table of contents ===

A TOC is added automatically as soon as you have more than three headers. To add one with fewer than four headers, type <nowiki>__FORCETOC__</nowiki> anywhere on the page or <nowiki>__TOC__</nowiki> at the position where you want to have the TOC.

== Announcements ==

Shouldn't this link [[Suggest Changes to Nexuswiki]] be removed as it only redirects to [[Planned Projects]] which is already linked to on the Main Page?
--[[User:Leonis|Leonis]] 21:18, 18 May 2006 (EDT)

=== Re: Announcements ===

Yeah, I mean it can be removed. I only left it that way because they used to link to different places and "Suggest Changes" might communicate something different than "Planned Projects" to some people so that is why I left both. If anyone has any better announcements, feel free to get rid of it ^_^ --[[User:Zaventh|Zaventh]] 10:58, 19 May 2006 (EDT)
== Portal Colors ==

The buttons on the top look horrendous when formatted with 4 different colors. Try making them the same? --Hiro
:Is it any better now? I personally liked the original design best.--[[User:PhantomSnake | PhantomSnake]] [[Image:PhantomSnake 2005 1.png]] 20:24, 30 July 2006 (EDT)

:I kind of liked it myself... --[[User:Zaventh|Zaventh]] 14:31, 31 July 2006 (EDT)

::Why purple, Zaventh? =\ The way I had it originally each path had its totem colour. I don't see what purple has to do with anything. Also, the shade of purple you're using is much darker than the colours on the other buttons.--[[User:PhantomSnake | PhantomSnake]] [[Image:PhantomSnake 2005 1.png]] 19:53, 31 July 2006 (EDT)

:Hmm.. I think, upon re-examining them, that it didn't look very good when the white rogue button brought you to a blue rogue section, or when a red mage button brought you to a red mage section... Personally I liked them when they were all that light blue color. *shrug* --hiro

Well, I made them all blue now. This is probably the best compromise. You make a good point though, Hiro... I think each portal should have a different colour scheme and then the buttons should match those schemes. But I don't see that kind of design being accepted any time soon. Some people here seem to be afraid of colour. ;)--[[User:PhantomSnake | PhantomSnake]] [[Image:PhantomSnake 2005 1.png]] 14:52, 7 August 2006 (EDT)
== News Again... ==

When are we going to start reporting news?? I think having the News + all the other information we have already will bring many more to NW, not to mention we will be able to link articles in the news to pages on NW so in case they dont know what something is they can just click, thats a huge plus that NA/NTK does not have!
